This Thursday, we will be holding our Spring Fair which is an event organised by our Parents and Friends Association and supported by the school. The event will feature a variety of performances, including talent shows, choirs and dancing. We have a wide selection of vendors with a variety of items on show and for sale, allowing visitors to browse and enjoy some free samples, activities and the chance to win great prizes. The response from local and international businesses to support this event has been incredible, and include Devere Acuma, Costa, Esports, NKD Pizza, The Toy Store, PWS, Magrudy's, Bookworm, Funky Monkeys, Lakeland, Arabian Ranches Golf Club, JA Resorts, Build-a-Bear, Ski Dubai, Wild Wadi, Bounce, Hertz, Del Monte, Cold Stone Creamery, The Entertainer, Emaar Gift Cards, Herbline Essentials, Seawings, and so many more. The event is a chance to bring families, the school and the local community together, including local businesses in support of each other.
We will also be launching the start of our campaign, supported by Qatar Airways, to support our sixth form students in their cycle to South Africa. Dubai British School will be the first school from Dubai to be teaming up with professors and undergraduate students on a two week research expedition to South Africa. Four Sixth Form students (aged 16-18 studying A Levels at DBS) and a Geography teacher will be working with local communities and the South African Government to manage and conserve wildlife and ecosystems in Kruger National Park and Sodwana Bay.

The first week will be about helping the underlying conservation issues in Africa and developing sustainable approaches. It will be spent in the leading National Park in Africa undertaking three projects with the following objectives:
- To quantify the impact of elephants and controlling sustainably their numbers
- To assist in the data collection on the distribution of large herbivores and predators
- To gather evidence of bird communities and structures

The second week is spent on an Indian Ocean reef ecology course, from identifying coral reef biodiversity and possible new species to helping protect the local communities from threats. The week will provide key data and research for the key players to the future of South Africa’s wildlife.
This expedition is an opportunity to make an essential difference to ecosystems, local communities and to South Africa. It is clear, what happens in Africa over the next few years will determine the future of species on the planet and therefore directly affect humans. Although South Africa is a dangerous and deprived place in areas, the pupils are determined make a difference and to take their experiences back to Dubai and educate others with a hope of inspiring others to continue in projects.
The pupils are attempting to create as much awareness of this incredible journey as they can.
